Facelift Procedure The beauty of a face is in the fine details
What is a Facelift?
A facelift is a popular approach to treating facial wrinkles and sagging caused by aging. Ranging from minimally invasive to more extensive, this procedure removes excess, sagging skin, tightens underlying tissues and muscles, and redrapes the skin for a more youthful appearance.
Who is a Candidate?
Patients who experience signs or symptoms including loose or sagging skin on the face or neck, jowls or deep creases on the face, a “double chin,” sunken cheek pads, or just simply a tired appearing face, may be able to benefit from a facelift. However, the best way to determine if this procedure is right for you is through a consultation with Dr. Chao.
The Facelift Procedure
Depending on the degree of skin laxity, you may need anywhere from a “mini” to a “full” facelift. The incision will be made within the hairline above the ear, it will extend around the earlobe and back towards the hairline behind and below the ear. The skin and/or muscles will be tightened and lifted, excess skin will be removed and the incisions will be closed with sutures.
Results and Recovery
Following a facelift, patients may experience bruising, swelling, and discomfort. Any pain can be controlled with oral pain medication. After a facelift, patients will go home with dressings wrapped around the head and neck. There may be small drains left in place which typically stay in for up to one week. Sutures will be removed within two-weeks. Initial results are typically seen within 4-6 weeks with continued improvement for several months. Individual results and experience may vary.
