What can I expect during treatment?

Treatment will take place in our esthetic treatment room.  You will wear safety eyewear to protect your eyes from the laser light.  Your practitioner will guide the laser to the treatment areas with a small hand piece. Depending on which laser is being used, a clear gel may be placed on the area or a cooling spray may be used. A treatment can take as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour, depending on the area and condition being treated.

With the advancement of technology and our experienced staff, current laser hair removal procedures are SAFE to perform on all skin types; one through six, successfully and safely.  The GentleYag and Elos Plus have the appropriate wavelength enabling it to treat all skin types; particularly patients with darker skin such as African American, Indian, Asian and dark Mediterranean’s. Patients with light blonde hair or gray hair are still at a disadvantage and to date no adequate laser therapy exist for these patients. Both men and women can achieve hair reduction on almost all body areas. Individual results and experience may vary.

The photographs contained in this website are for the purpose of illustration only. They represent the average outcome for the procedure described. Chao Plastic Surgery does not and cannot offer any guarantee as to the outcome for any individual. Your results may be significantly different from the results represented in the before-and-after photography of Chao Plastic Surgery.

How many treatments will I need?

The number of sessions depends on the treatment you require and the condition of your skin. For hair removal, multiple treatments are required as the process  is most effective when the hair follicle is in its active growth phase. Many factors impact the efficacy of individual laser treatments. Individual results and experience may vary.

What precautions should I take after treatment?

After treatment, a cool compress may be applied for comfort. Any redness or swelling should resolve within a few hours. After laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). In the first few days after treatment, don't scrub or rinse the treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers.

Does it hurt?

Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each laser pulse, sometimes described as a snapping of a rubber band on the skin. The GentleYAG has a cooling device and the elōs has a cooling tip to keep patients comfortable. This is a no-downtime procedure and many patients return to normal activities immediately after treatment. Individual results and experience may vary.

Laser Hair Removal

Chao Plastic Surgery | Latham, NY

How do I prepare for a laser hair removal treatment?

Patients should avoid picking, tweezing, waxing and electrolysis for six weeks prior to treatment. If you have a history of herpes simplex virus and are scheduled for a facial hair treatment, prophylactic antiviral therapy may be prescribed. Any hair should be completely removed by shaving 2 days prior to treatment.  Your skin should be thoroughly cleansed and dried removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical anesthetics or skin-tanning products before laser treatment. The intended treatment area should not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for 14 days prior to treatment.

How does hair removal with elōs & GentleYAG work?

With the elōs plus : Hair follicles are precisely targeted and destroyed using the revolutionary elōs combination of bi-polar radio frequency and light energies.

With the GentleYAG:The laser created a beam of high-intensity light that penetrates deep into skin tissue where it delivers a controlled amount of targeted therapeutic heat.  Candela's patented Dynamic Cooling Device (DCD) technology protects the upper layers of your skin with a cooling nurse of cryogen.  Together, the long-pulse laser and DCD cooling offer optimal treatment with minimal side effects.

Are there any side effect?

Your risks are minimal.  Side effects may include redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation, hypopigmentation, blistering, and purport (a laser bruise) in the treated areas - these usually do not last more than a few days.  Be sure to discuss potential side effects with your practitioner.  Individual results and experience may vary.
